Clever solutions for your home's hard-to-reach spaces

Custom glide-out shelves can increase your storage space and allow for better organization of your items. Sponsored by ShelfGenie.

SEATTLE — ShelfGenie designs, builds and installs custom storage solutions for the home, including pull-out shelving for better accessibility in hard-to-reach places.

“We’re really trying to maximize the storage space and the organization as well,” said Alan Regala, director of client happiness, ShelfGenie of Seattle.

One of the places ShelfGenie can help is under a built-in kitchen desk.

“Especially a lot of '80s and '90s homes will have this space where it’s a desk, but nobody really uses them as desks,” Regala said.

Regala and his team work to make the space more functional by installing glide-out shelving below. This allows for additional storage and helps customers better organize items that may have been stacked on the counter previously.

ShelfGenie can work with unique shapes, like trapezoidal cabinets and odd angles and around plumbing or wiring. The goal is to make maximum use of the space. A ShelfGenie design consultation is free to talk with a team member about the right solutions for your home.

“We come in and we try to see how we can help people out, and there’s usually a lot more that’s possible than people imagine,” Regala said.

Because ShelfGenie shelving is custom designed, they don’t have to be perfect rectangles. Shelves can have cut-outs, notches and unique shapes to fit perfectly into spaces to help you access items easily and make the best use of the space you have. This includes cabinets under sinks, pantries that have distinct angles and areas with ducting.

These clever solutions can help ease frustrations and make your daily tasks a bit easier.
