SEATTLE — MacPherson's Fruit & Produce, a beloved institution in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood, will reopen on Saturday after closing several months ago.
The business shut down after 40 years, seemingly for good, in October due to the increasing costs of doing business, construction in the area and the owner's wish to retire. However, a former manager at the store has stepped in as the new proprietor, paving the way for the stand to reopen.
MacPherson's received its first produce delivery Friday morning at 7 a.m.
When the store closed, customers told KING 5 that it would be a huge loss to the community. It was one of the most accessible places to buy cheap, fresh produce in the area. After the fruit stand's closure, Beacon Hill locals had to travel further to get the same goods. MacPherson's reopening will bring affordable, fresh produce back to the neighborhood.
