$25,000 reward offered for information in Seattle lumberyard arson

A $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for starting a fire at a Seattle lumberyard in November.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for a massive fire at the Gascoigne Lumber Company.

The four-alarm fire started around 8:40 p.m. on November 10 in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. The Seattle Fire Department reported that crews saw flames up to 100-feet high when they first arrived. Investigators said the fire was intentionally set.

The Seattle Fire Department initially said the fire caused an estimated $4.3 million in damage. The ATF said in a press release Tuesday that the fire caused an estimated $12 million in damages.

The Arson Alarm Foundation is also offering a $10,000 reward, bringing the total amount to $25,000, the ATF said.

After the fire, business owner Robert Gascoigne said he would focus on starting over, although it would likely be at a new location.

“We've identified with this city selling lumber for almost a hundred years, and we'd like to be around longer even though we've had a tragic event,” said Gascoigne.
