SEATTLE — The Seahawks game against the Rams on Sunday all came down to a field goal. Jason Myers missed a late 55-yarder, giving the Rams the 17-16 win.
“It’s always been historically a tough matchup playing the Rams, going way back to the early 90s, even probably the 80s,” Terry Hollimon said.
Before Jason Myers missed the late field goal, he made two kicks for more than 50 yards, breaking the franchise record for most field goals made over 50 yards. Hollimon says the loss isn’t on Myers.
“There are a number of different ways the Seahawks could have prevented that from happening in the first place,” he said.
The Seahawks started off strong with an opening 14-play drive for a touchdown. Quarterback Geno Smith had to leave the game, though, in the second half with an elbow injury. He was able to later come back into the game, almost leading the Seahawks to the win.
“Hopefully he’ll be able to get some treatment, get his elbow back in order this week and be ready for Thursday night’s game versus San Francisco,” Hollimon said.
Hollimon’s player of the game is wide receiver DK Metcalf. He ended the day with five receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown.
“He had a big catch at the end of the game that really gave the Seahawks an opportunity to come through with a win at the end,” he said.
After such a close loss, it’s important to put emotions aside and look ahead to the 49ers during a short week.
“Take that last game versus the Rams and flush it, forget about it and just go to work on the San Francisco 49ers,” Hollimon said.
The 49ers are strong at many positions, including having star running back Christian McCaffrey and defensive end Nick Bosa. As one of the top teams in the NFL, the 49ers will be looking to improve to 8-3 as the Seahawks look to get to 7-4.
“Hopefully Geno is back and ready to go,” Hollimon said.
