SEATTLE — The Seahawks now sit at 5-2, atop the NFC West, after a win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The team sported throwback uniforms for the game at Lumen Field.
“It went over like gangbusters,” Terry Hollimon said. “I think the players loved it. You hear from guys like Bobby Wagner and Tyler Lockett. They were so pumped up to have these jerseys and these uniforms.”
The Seahawks started the game strong, scoring 17 points in the first quarter. The offense didn’t score again until late into the fourth quarter.
“When it mattered most, Geno Smith buckled down, came through with a game winning drive, and the Hawks came through with a W,” Hollimon said.
The defense held the Browns to two field goals in the third quarter and no points in the fourth. The Seahawks’ defense also caught two interceptions and recovered a fumble.
“They come through all year,” Hollimon said. “They say, ‘big players make big plays in big games,’ and that’s exactly what happened.”
Hollimon gives Boye Mafe his player of the game accolade. He recovered a fumble and recorded his fifth consecutive sack, tying a Seahawk record.
“Boye Mafe was all over the field," Hollimon said. "He was putting pressure on the Browns quarterback all day long.”
The Seahawks will travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens on Sunday. The 6-2 Ravens have been having success on both sides of the ball, led by quarterback Lamar Jackson
“They have a guy at the quarterback position who at any given moment is the best athlete on the field,” Hollimon said.
Defensively, they’ll likely put a lot of pressure on Geno Smith, and players in the backfield can make things tough for the Seahawks’ wide receivers. Hollimon says the key to the game, though, will be stopping Lamar Jackson.
“If you can contain him, you’re going to have a shot at winning this game," Hollimon said.
Another focus is third downs. Hollimon says the offense needs to convert and the defense needs to get off the field on third down.
