Wind and rain pelt Puget Sound on Tuesday

A system brought strong winds and heavy rain to the Puget Sound region on Tuesday. The stormy weather should subside overnight.

Though the strongest winds appear to be over in the Puget Sound region, there is still a chance of gusts and rain throughout the evening. Another strong band of weather moved through Seattle around 5 p.m.

Some of the highest wind gusts during Tuesday's storm were reported near Queets (81 mph), in the Olympics (63 mph), La Push (62 mph) and Sandy Point Shores in Whatcom County (61 mph), according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory that expired at 5 p.m. for the Tacoma area north to Everett, including Bellevue and surrounding areas and Kitsap County.

A High Wind Warning was in effect along the coast until 4 p.m. Winds could reach up to 45 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.

As the cold front moves on and the low pressure moves farther away, we will see a switch to off and on showers and gradually diminishing winds during the afternoon, according to KING 5 Meteorologist Rich Marriott. 

In the Puget Sound area, gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and tree limbs, and a few power outages may occur, according to the weather service.
