Hazardous Weather Outlook issued for central Washington ahead of thunderstorms

A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued ahead of scattered thunderstorms that are expected to develop in the Cascades.

The National Weather Service is warning of potentially severe weather in areas of Washington on Wednesday afternoon.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued ahead of scattered thunderstorms that are expected to develop in the Cascades and spread over the remainder of central and eastern Washington.

Though the bulk of thunderstorms will be in the mountains, the Puget Sound lowlands could see a few as well.

A Red Flag Warning was also issued for portions of the Cascades and the lower Columbia Basin. The Weather Service warns that even lower elevations will be prone to wildfires due to "abundant lightning" and dry conditions.

Over in eastern Washington, the weather could be more severe.

The Storm Prediction Center has areas near Lewiston, Moscow, and Pullman in a "Slight Risk" (level 2 of 5) category for severe weather. Surrounding areas including Spokane and Coeur d'Alene are in a "Marginal Risk" (level 1 of 5) category.
