SEATTLE — Seattle Reign FC has extended defender Sofia Huerta’s contract through the 2027 NWSL season. Huerta is in her fourth season with the Reign since joining the club following a trade with the Houston Dash in 2020.

“I’m so excited to stay in Seattle and sign an extension here with the Reign,” said Huerta. “Since joining the team in 2020, I’ve felt the support from our fans and I’m looking forward to growing that connection while getting more involved in the community. For years we’ve been a winning team and competed for trophies and I can’t wait to continue that with this team!”

This season, Huerta joins goalkeeper Claudia Dickey as the only two players on the team to play all 270 minutes through three games. In three full seasons with Reign FC, Huerta has 12 assists, the fifth-most in club history.  She’s also one of 12 players in Reign FC history to surpass 5,000 regular season minutes played.

Since 2021, Huerta leads all Reign players in assists, crosses (341) and chances created (105). The 31-year-old has 31 regular-season assists, tied for the most assists in NWSL history.  Huerta has also scored 35 goals, establishing herself as one of two players with at least 30 goals and 30 assists all-time.

“Sofia Huerta has had a notable career in the NWSL. Here at Seattle Reign FC, we are pleased that her foreseeable future is cemented here,” said Seattle Reign FC General Manager Lesle Gallimore. “Sofia’s evolution as a player has been fantastic to watch, and when there’s an obstacle or challenge to be met, she does it with a champion’s mentality. She’s elite in her role on the field and is an empowered leader in the club.”

At the international level, Huerta earned her first-ever World Cup call-up on June 21, 2023. She has 32 caps and four assists with the United States Women's National Team after debuting with the squad in 2017.
