PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State junior forward Jaylen Wells announced on Thursday that he is declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility.
In the post Wells said, “It's been an honor to represent Washington State and truly learn what it means to be a Coug. It has always been a dream of mine to play in the NBA, and being in Pullman has given me the opportunity to make that dream true. For that, I have the deepest gratitude for the whole Washington State community. This has been the most exciting season I've had in my career and it was amazing to see the community rally behind us. With that being said. I am declaring for the 2024 NBA draft while maintaining my college eligibility.”
Wells started 20 games for the Cougs this season, averaging just under 13 points per game while shooting 44% from the field and 42% from three.
The announcement comes just days after Wells and Isaiah Watts announced on Instagram Live that they will stay at Washington State.
The university has seen plenty of turmoil following head coach Kyle Smith leaving for Stanford and Athletic Director Pat Chun leaving for the University of Washington. The Cougs have ten players currently in the transfer portal including Myles Rice and Andrej Jakimovski.
On Tuesday, the Cougs hired David Riley as their new head basketball coach. He is coming to Pullman after three seasons as head coach at Eastern Washington.
