Seahawks struggle against the Raiders

The Seahawks’ defense allowed the Raiders to produce almost 600 yards of offense in a 40-34 overtime loss. Sponsored by Muckleshoot Casino.

SEATTLE — Many people expected the Seahawks to beat the Raiders on Sunday as they came into Seattle with a 3-7 record.

“The Raiders haven’t been having a very successful season, and I thought it was going to be a win for the Hawks,” Terry Holliman said. “Nope, no such luck.”

Quandre Diggs got the Seahawks off to a good start with an interception on the first play of the game. After that, though, the Seahawks struggled to rush the ball and to defend the run as they came off the bye week.

“There’s something a lot of people don’t take into consideration, a player on each and every team that a lot of people don’t pay attention to,” Hollimon said. “And his name is ‘Big Mo.’ By Big Mo, we mean big momentum. When the Seahawks have been rolling this season, it’s because of Big Mo.”

Having a week off can set back momentum, and the team allowed running back Josh Jacobs to have a huge day on the ground with 229 yards rushing. His 86-yard touchdown in overtime sealed the game for the Raiders.

“The Seahawks could not stop him,” Hollimon said. “And it was just an incredible day for him.”

The Seahawks offense couldn’t get much going with the run game, leaving the team one-dimensional. Although Geno Smith threw for more than 300 yards, it wasn’t enough to make up for the lack of momentum rushing the ball.

The team travels to Los Angeles this weekend to take on the Rams, and although the Rams are struggling without starting quarterback Matthew Stafford and star wide receiver Cooper Kupp, Hollimon says not to count them out.

“They’re coming off five losses. It could be a trick game for the Seahawks because they always seem to not play well against the Rams. Hopefully they can take advantage of some of the things that are going wrong down there in L.A.”

A bit of good news did come from the Raiders game. The Seahawks announced that they’ll be bringing ‘90s throwback jerseys back for the 2023 season to the delight of many fans.
