Suspect pleads not guilty to first-degree murder in Belltown stabbing case

SEATTLE — The man accused of fatally stabbing another man in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood on Sept. 22 pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

James D. McClinton Jr., 58, was arrested Sept. 26 and booked into King County Jail. He's being held on $3 million bail.

On the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 22, police responded to a report of a stabbing in Belltown, according to Seattle police. They found the male victim around 5 p.m. in the lobby of an apartment building in the 100 block of Cedar Street.

Police provided aid until Seattle Fire crews responded to take over medical care.

The victim died at the scene.

McClinton was arrested after an investigation by homicide detectives.
