SEATTLE -- She's perhaps the most famous baby photographer in the world. This week Anne Geddes is in Seattle snapping pictures of local kids and leading an online photography demonstration.

Geddes is also using her iconic pictures to give some of the most fragile little ones a voice. She's joined forces with the March of Dimes in a campaign for World Prematurity Day.

"All of the great photographers in the world are terribly passionate about what they do," Geddes said. "It's not just a photograph. It's a feeling, it's a message."

You can find the message or feeling in Geddes' photography in the eyes, smiles and chubby cheeks of the babies she photographs.

"I just love children. I love the honesty," said Geddes.

While many of her iconic images are filled with whimsy, there are also those that take your breath away.

"I'm a global advocate for children and I like to convey in my images the importance of babies and new life," she said.

Geddes photographed a premature infant to support the organization's research of ways to prevent premature birth and improve the odds of survival for those born early.

"March of Dimes is doing incredible research into the reasons why," she said. "Because Mother Nature being Mother Nature, it's still a mystery in a lot of cases."

Geddes hopes her images also give support to families dealing with babies born early.

"They're just incredibly special and every one of them has a story. Every family that has a baby in the NICU has a story," said Geddes. "I understand that there are families that are going through that sort of grief and we want to look forward with a sense of hope."

November 17 is World Prematurity Day.
