A rally is planned at the construction site of a new King County Youth Jail in Seattle Tuesday morning.
Organizers say they plan to release the names of more than 100 organizations that have endorsed the People’s Moratorium, demanding a halt in construction.
The group wants King County to pause construction on the new youth jail so the community can negotiate “repurposing the site to meet basic human needs.”
So far this year, protesters with the No New Youth Jail campaign have blocked busy downtown intersections, formed human barricades at the construction site, and forced County Executive Dow Constantine to cancel his state of the county address.
The rally at 12th and Alder is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
The jail is scheduled to open in 2020.
