Pierce County murder suspect caught after illegally crossing Canadian border

A man accused of killing his girlfriend in Puyallup was arrested in British Columbia after illegally crossing the Canadian border.

A man accused of killing a woman in Pierce County early Monday was caught after he illegally crossed the Canadian border. 

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reports the homicide suspect was taken into custody by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Surrey, British Columbia. He had illegally crossed the border and was located at a hospital. The suspect fled from authorities on foot and was taken into custody after a short pursuit. 

Authorities say the suspect was armed at the time of his arrest. A van believed to be stolen by the suspect was recovered in Blaine, Washington by the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect is accused of shooting his girlfriend early Monday morning in the 15100 block of 71st Avenue E in the South Hill area. 

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department said he fled to Puyallup where he stole the van that was recovered later Monday afternoon.
