New market helping revitalize downtown Everett

Farms and Market leases shelf space families and monitors supply, so local farmers don't have to staff their booth.

A new market concept in downtown Everett promises to help local food producers by offering shelf space to farmers who may not have otherwise been able to afford the area.

Farms and Market leases shelf space families and monitors supply, so local farmers don't have to staff their booth.

"One of the main filters that we look for is whether the product directly supports the local food economy," Alicia Moreno, General Manager of Farms and Market, said.

Farms like Golden Glen Creamery in Bow, are feeling the impact. Co-owner Norma Ruiz says the market provides great exposure.

"It's really hard to find staff especially for farmers markets," she said. "This actually gives us the opportunity to spend out further staff markets, especially with the minimum wage like this."

Farms and Market is located in the new Grand Avenue Marketplace and was mentioned by name in Mayor Cassie Franklin's State of the City Address as a way to help revitalize the downtown core.

The market is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. A grand opening celebration is set for March 1st.
