PORTLAND, Ore. — A temporary rule allowing people to potentially pump their own gas at Oregon stations where it’s typically prohibited comes to an end this weekend.
The Oregon State Fire Marshal put the temporary rule into place in late March to ensure the safety of gas retailers during the coronavirus pandemic. The decision on whether to allow self-service was left to individual stations.
But beginning Sunday, May 24, attendants must again pump your gas at stations in populous communities where self-service is prohibited.
“We want to thank Oregonians and the many Oregon businesses who provide gasoline for their patience as we allowed for voluntary self-service at Oregon gas stations where that service had not been available before,” said State Fire Marshal Jim Walker.
Self-service will still be allowed in less populous areas of the state.
