Ballard High School's award-winning Jazz Band has had an incredible year, and it’s about to get even better.
They are headed to New York City to be part of the highly prestigious Essentially Ellington competition from May 10 - 12. The Jazz Band is made up of dedicated student musicians who have been practicing for months, if not years.
They are one of 15 bands chosen to compete out of 109 across the country!
The finals are still a few weeks away, but the kids are already getting "jazzed" about the competition.
But Seattle has a whole lot of soul! Ballard High School is one of three local schools appearing at Essentially Ellington. Mountlake Terrace and Roosevelt high schools are also heading to the big apple to compete.
The Ballard Jazz Band is no stranger to the spotlight. They were one of five Western Washington high school jazz bands selected to perform at Starbucks' 23rd annual Hot Java Cool Jazz performance at the Paramount Theater for a sold-out performance.
And no doubt the upcoming performance in NYC will also be sold out. But you don't have to fly to the big apple to see the band in action. You can stream the Performance Live!
