TACOMA, Wash. — Detectives are investigating a fatal hit-and-run on Interstate 5 in Tacoma over the weekend and are seeking information from witnesses.

A 39-year-old man from Texas was killed in the crash on Saturday, March 30, just after 2 p.m., according to the Washington State Patrol. His yellow Ford Focus was disabled in a lane on southbound I-5 near the Tacoma Mall.

The victim was struck by a green Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

The driver of the Silverado then fled the scene in a car he stole from a good Samaritan who stopped to help the victim. That car, a white GMC Acadia, was later found abandoned miles down the road.

Anyone who saw the crash or knows anything about it is urged to call WSP Detective Tessa Schahfer at 253-538-3172 or email her at tessa.schahfer@wsp.wa.gov.
