Detectives looking for suspect who killed popular Puyallup store owner

A beloved Puyallup store owner was killed during a robbery Saturday night.

Pierce County detectives are still searching for two suspects connected to the murder of a 79-year-old Puyallup woman.

Detectives said the victim, Soon Ja Nam, is very popular business owner. Nam was shot and killed Saturday at 5:08 p.m. during a robbery at the Handy Corner Store.

Witnesses said two people entered the store with a gun and demanded cash from the register. She gave them the money, and one of the suspects shot her in the back.

On Sunday, the sheriff’s office said a vehicle used by the suspects to flee the scene was found outside of Pierce County and is being processed by detectives.

The suspects took off in a 1990s four-door Nissan Sentra. The two men wore beanie caps and white hospital-style surgical masks.

KC Lott, a Handy Corner Store customer, stopped by to show her support and give condolences.

"When I first heard what happened I wanted to get down here as fast as I could," Lott said. "She was the sweetest woman; always was so sweet with the kids."
