A car belonging to a woman whose body was found near a bunker on Camano Island has been located in California. A $1 million warrant has been issued for the arrest of a person of interest in the case.
The Island County Sheriff's Office said the Honda Civic belonging to Katherine Cunningham, 26, was abandoned on Interstate 5 in Yreka, about 25 miles south of the Oregon-California border.
Deputies have been looking for Jacob Gonzales, 34, since Cunningham's body was found near the bunker on March 3. The cause of death was ruled as homicidal violence with decapitation.
Gonzales is now charged with five counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and one count of auto theft. The arrest warrant is on those charges, but he officially remains a person of interest in the Cunningham case.
Authorities say Gonzales is a Hispanic man, approximately 5’9” tall, weighs 150 pounds, and has black hair and hazel eyes. The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public not to approach him and believe Gonzales is armed and dangerous.
The sheriff's office said Friday it believed Gonzales was headed to Las Vegas.
