Steelhead Diner: upscale dining in the heart of Pike Place Market

What every first time visitor must try!

Steelhead Diner may be located right on the edge of Pike Place Market but it's hardly a tourist trap. Locals have known for years about the lunches served up by owner Kevin Davis. He's a New Orleans transplant who varies the menu based on what's available down at the market. You're always getting something fresh here.

If you go, one of you should ask for the Dungeness crab and bay shrimp tater tots to start things off. The other one should order the Dungeness crab cakes, a staple at the Steelhead since day one. The Bloody Marys here are spicy. They are made in a batch several days in advance and served with creole seasoning. On wintry days, the chicken and Andouille sausage gumbo will warm things up. The most popular item on the menu is the Pike Place Cioppino. It comes with mussels, clams, shrimp, finfish, pasta, potato, and bread.

Davis and his wife Teresa have become a pretty big deal in Seattle. They now own four restaurants and a coffee shop and employ 200 people.
