Two stars of a critically-acclaimed NBC show are reunited in the comedy Game Night.
Kyle Chandler and Jesse Plemmons starred side by side as coach and football player on Friday Night Lights more than a decade ago.
In Game Night, they play a charismatic businessman and creepy neighbor.
“It's a pleasure to be working together,” Chandler said. “We did some catching up. I was a little nervous when I first got there... so it was nice to go to someone and have a conversation and say, ‘Hey, this is different, isn't it?"
Chandler’s character Brooks plans a murder mystery event for his brother and friends. But early in the evening, the game collides with real life - and the group uses their problem-solving skills to save Brooks from armed kidnappers.
Plemmons prefers a less stressful pastime in real life.
"I like going to a bar and playing pool,” Plemmons said. "I have a very small window where I'm decent. It's like three beers in.”
Smart and self-referential, the movie makes fun of its own tropes and lands virtually every joke. Chandler thinks it’s the kind of escapist film audiences are looking for.
"I think having a good solid comedy right now might be like a good stiff martini for a businessman late in the evening when he really needs one,” Chandler said.
Game Night is rated R and opens February 23.
