Mercer Island teen one of many powerful women featured in latest Rad Women book

The bestselling Rad Women series of books celebrates women of all ages who make an impact by accomplishing rad things. The latest book is called Rad Girls Can and features inspiring girls who've done amazing things before the age of 20.

SEATTLE — Following Rad Women Worldwide and Rad American Women A-Z, Kate Schatz's latest book Rad Girls Can shines a spotlight on young women who didn't waste any time before accomplishing amazing things.

Within the book's pages, alongside inspirational stories of women like author Mary Shelley and Mexican-American pop star Selena, is the story of a 15 year old girl from Mercer Island who is already making waves in social justice and women's rights.

Cordelia Longo, who attends Islander Middle School in Mercer Island, fulfilled her mission of making female students' lives a little bit easier by convincing the school to provide free tampons and pads in restrooms instead of utilizing vending machines. She donated her own time and money to provide baskets full of feminine hygiene products herself while the school considered her petition.

The teen activist is joined by Rad Girls Can author Kate Schatz and illustrator Miriam Klein Stahl, to speak more about Rad Girls Can and the impactful stories the book features.

There will be an author event featuring Schatz and Klein-Stahl on August 2, 7:00 PM at Third Place Books' Seward Park location, 5041 Wilson Ave S, Seattle.
