The violent crime of swatting could have global implications

Former U.S. intelligence officer Naveed Jamali says anti-swatting laws like the one in WA state are needed to stop the tactic on a worldwide scale.

SEATTLE — Swatting is the action of making a false or prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring armed police officers to a specific address. The danger arises when officers are told there are guns and/or violent persons on the premises and enter a house forcefully.

Seattle resident and former U.S. intelligence officer in the Navy Reserve Naveed Jamali who now co-chairs Seattle Police Department's Swatting Mitigation Advisory Committee says it's only a matter of time before terrorists use swatting to cause problems on a global scale.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) recently sponsored an anti-swatting bill in Washington State that passed the House unanimously and is now onto the Senate.
