SEATTLE - From the boomboxes to the snapback hats, Throwbacks Northwest on Capitol Hill is the boutique equivalent of a time machine.

"We specialize in unique, one-of-a-kind, hard to find vintage retro sportswear," said owner Mark Musgrave.

The store was one of the first of its kind in the country, featuring gently-used streetwear from the 1980s and 1990s.

Musgrave also specializes in "deadstock" - new, never-worn items from baseball, football and basketball seasons long ago.

"This one is from 1979," he said, holding up a green T-shirt. "It's from after the Sonics won the championship, and it's brand new, never worn."

His most valuable product isn't even from a local team. It's a deadstock Chicago Bulls hat, re-constructed with a python skin bill, selling for $1,000.

Most things are more affordable. A 30-year-old M's jersey is $40. Vintage hats are a bit less.

Musgrave also carries new items, made by local, independent designers.

"What we sell, for the most part, you really can't find at the mall," Musgrave said. "Fashion and trends change so quickly, but (these items) aren't going anywhere because it's team-oriented, and you're always going to like your team."

Throwbacks Northwest is on 12th Ave. and E. Pike St. You can also shop their online inventory.
