The podcast "Oso: Life after America's deadliest landslide" that Jake Whittenberg and the KING 5 News team put together. It's extremely well crafted, informative and emotional. The scars from that day remain on the landscape and the people who lived there and the ones who fought to save their neighbors. An easily binge-able series that just might renew your faith in humanity.

I want to rave about two different takes on life in Japan.
First there's the Oscar nominated movie "Perfect Days" about a man who finds happiness cleaning public restrooms in Tokyo, listening to his curated cassette collection and embracing the small joys life gives us. It's a poetic life at least until an unexpected visitor arrives. "Perfect Days" is still playing at some theaters.
And then there's the Japan of the 1600's which we visit in the 10 episode series "Shogun." Like the 1980 miniseries starring Richard Chamberlain, it's based on the book by James Clavell only this time (thanks to a diverse writers room) it's mostly from the point of view of the Japanese characters. Shot outside Vancouver, BC, it's an epic undertaking that is just about ready to hit a whole new level this week. You can catch it on F/X and Hulu.
