A classic county fair at a fair price, King County Fair opens in Enumclaw

Oldest fair west of the Mississippi has it all. July 19-22 at the Enumclaw Expo Center.
Piglets and more at the King County Fair!

Abraham Lincoln was President when they kicked off the first King County Fair in 1863. The longest-running fair west of the Mississippi runs through Sunday in Enumclaw.

All the classic fair fare can be found at the Enumclaw Expo Center, like cotton candy, kettle corn and corn dogs. But they also have lobster rolls, dragon's breath balls and fried Oreos! And the food prices will be a pleasant surprise. At Piggly's (where I can personally vouch for the BBQ Beef sandwhich...tender, juicy, doesn't even need extra sauce!), prices are reduced by two bucks on just about everything.

You may want to eat AFTER riding the brand new "Super Shot Drop" from 90-feet high above the grounds.

There are baby pigs, pygmy goats, cows, chickens and the 4-H horse barn is decked out. They have barrel racing for the first time ever too.

But farm animals are joined by the more exotic "Reptile Isle." You can get as close to snakes, lizards, alligators and tortoises as you desire. Ever RIDE a tortoise? You can at the King County Fair.

And unlike many fairs, entertainment is included in the admission cost...which is just 10 dollars. Kids under five are free. Plus there are senior and military discounts too.
