Dense Fog Advisory expires in Puget Sound region

Visibility in some areas was one-fourth of a mile or less Thursday morning.

SEATTLE — Heavy fog reduced visibility for areas around Puget Sound Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory that expired at noon on Thursday. Visibility was reduced to one-fourth of a mile or less.

The advisory impacted lowland areas near Puget Sound, the Straight of Juan De Fuca, Hood Canal, as well as southwest Washington.

Fog impacting ferry service, flights

Washington State Ferries suspended service along the Port Townsend-Coupeville route Wednesday evening due to the heavy fog. 

The 3:30 p.m. ferry from Port Townsend was unable to dock in Coupeville and was forced to return to Port Townsend, according to an alert. 

The Port Townsend route is the one most often canceled due to weather, according to Washington State Ferries.

Washington State Ferries does not expect other routes to be canceled.

Flights saw some delays at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) on Wednesday night. A Traffic Management Program was in effect, with some flights delayed by an average of an hour and 13 minutes. The Traffic Management Program was lifted at around 8:30 p.m.

There were 36 flight delays and 13 cancellations at SEA early Thursday morning. However, by 7:30 a.m., a spokesperson for the airport said everything was operating as normal.

Travelers are asked to check their specific flight to see if it's impacted.
