Kenmore bridge re-opens after sinkhole forced closure

Sammamish River Bridge in Kenmore closed Tuesday after construction led to a sinkhole.

The Sammamish River Bridge in Kenmore re-opened Wednesday night after a sinkhole caused an emergency closure.

However, the sidewalk next to the southbound lane will remain closed until further notice, according to the Northshore Utility District.

The utility district said contractors were working on the bridge installing a casing to relocate the sewer line when a sinkhole developed. The work is part of replacement bridge work that will start next year.

The bridge closed Tuesday around noon; 68th Avenue Northeast closed between NE 175th Street. and NE 170th Street.

The closure has impacts on people who use Bothell Way and Lake City Way via Juanita Drive.

The Northshore School District warned parents the increased traffic could mean some late bus pick-ups and drop-offs until the road reopens.
