Pete Carroll will be the longest-tenured coach in the history of the Seahawks franchise. Carroll signed a multi-year contract extension Monday, the Seahawks announced Monday.

“I am excited to announce that we have extended Head Coach Pete Carroll through the 2021 season,” said Jody Allen, Seahawks Chair and Trustee of the Paul G. Allen Trust. “This will continue the championship culture that we have created in Seattle.”

The extension ensures his future in Seattle through the 2021 season – his 12th season with the Seahawks. Carroll will surpass Mike Holmgren, who was with the Seahawks for 10 seasons.

Carroll has a 88-54-1 regular season record and a 9-5 postseason record. He is the team's all-time winningest coach.

The news comes just a day after the Seahawks clinched their seventh playoff berth since Carroll became coach.

“So grateful to [Jody] Allen and the organization,” Carroll said. “I love this team and couldn’t be more proud to represent the 12s.”

After being with Carroll for eight of his nine seasons in Seattle, wide receiver Doug Baldwin said the coaching job done this season may be Carroll's best, taking a team few expected to be contender and leading them to the postseason for the seventh time in his Seahawks tenure.

"I would put this up there as one of his best years coaching, without a doubt. All the new faces, all the new coaches, the new guys, really just figuring out how best to utilize them so that we can be successful on the football field and perform at a high level, it's incredible," Baldwin said. "Now he's not going to get all the credit, because we do have an offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator and all the position coaches who work their tails off, too. It's a full team effort, for sure, but I will say that I think Pete has done a fantastic job this year."

Looking at Pete Carroll’s overall resume it’s easy to understand why he received another contract extension. Under Carroll, the Seahawks have won four of their 10 division titles, reached the playoffs seven times in the 17 seasons they’ve made it, and posted 10+ wins in five straight seasons (2012-2016) when the franchise had only five total before his arrival.

With at least two more games to play this year, and three more seasons after this one, Carroll has a chance to continue cementing his winning ways in Seattle.
