Seahawks tight end Ed Dickson has been activated to the 53-man squad ahead of Seattle’s Week 8 matchup against the Detroit Lions. Tight end Tyrone Swoopes was waived to make room on the roster.

Dickson spent the first seven weeks of the year on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List, where he also sat throughout the preseason. The tight end will see his first game of the season on Sunday.

Signed last spring to compete for the starting position, coach Pete Carroll is still familiarizing himself with what Dickson brings to the Seahawks’ offense.

“I need to wait and tell you that – we haven’t had him very much,” Carroll said Wednesday. “We just had him a little bit in the offseason. His background is well-versed, he’s done a lot of stuff. In the offense they were in in Carolina, they were very creative with what they did with their tight ends and he was involved with all kinds of stuff. He been placed all over the field – he’s been in the backfield, he’s been out of the backfield.

“All of that really gives us confidence that there is stuff we can do with him that we are looking forward to.”

Dickson and the Seahawks will square off against the Lions Sunday at 10:00 a.m. PT in Detroit.
