'The greatest Husky season in my lifetime': UW fans reflect on historic football season

UW fans said they are still proud of the team, which will go down as one of their favorite teams of all time.

SEATTLE — The Huskies are officially back home, after a heartbreaking loss to the Michigan Wolverines in the National Championship Game on Monday night.

Despite the loss, UW fans said they are still proud of the team, which will go down as one of their favorite teams of all time.

"14-1, doesn't get much better than that," said Dylan Mpyisy, a UW student. "Obviously the greatest Husky season in my lifetime."

It was a season filled with a lifetime of memories, with countless opponents bowing down to the Dawgs. Including one of their biggest rivals, who the Huskies defeated twice this season.

“Beating the Ducks honestly felt better than winning the National Championship, but also I wouldn't know that either," said Porter Lidle, a UW student.

Monday night was the first time the Huskies were up for a national championship since 1991. Similar to that game, which was played more than 30 years ago the Huskies faced off against a familiar foe, the University of Michigan Wolverines.

Unfortunately, this time the Huskies ended up losing to the Wolverines.

Which made this Seattle man, originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, a happy one.

"Today's our victory Tuesday, this is the first championship of my lifetime, but not the last for sure," said Layth Rehmen. “I thought well I live in Seattle, it's just a short hop over to take some pictures in front of the stadium for our championship."

But this story isn't about this season's national champions. It's about these lovable Dawgs that brought joy to Husky Nation every Saturday this season.

"It's great to see our guys make it all the way to the end,” Lidle said. “I would like to see a finish, but stuff happens, I still support the Dawgs."

"Support that will continue next season and beyond,” Mpyisy said. "Mark my words: 2025 Huskies are going back to the 2025 Football Playoffs, not saying we're going to win, but we're going to be back there in 2025."
