PREP ZONE: Anacortes basketball star Davis Fogle, Seahawks chasing state title

The Seahawks basketball team is fighting for a state championship this season.

ANACORTES, Wash. — It's already been a magical school year at Anacortes High School.

In December, the Seahawks made history and won the school's first ever state football championship.

Now the basketball team is chasing down a title. It's a team with a point guard who is not only one of the best players in the state, he's also won of the top in the country.

Anacortes junior Davis Fogle has one of the sweetest shots in the state. He can glide to rack with ease, he plays tenacious "D," delivers dimes, and, most importantly, he makes his team better.

"This kid is special, he is unique, he is different, I haven't seen anything or coached anything , even remotely close to it," said Anacortes head coach Brent Senff.

As a sophomore, Davis averaged 24.6 points and currently ranks as the 12th best shooting guard in the country and No. 1 player in the state for the class of 2025.

"He is fierce competitor, and when I say fierce competitor. When he loses a shooting drill at practice, he gets so upset and wants to re-challenge," said Senff.

"It's pretty cool when you work hard at something and you see it pay off, and it's just what I always loved to do," said Davis.

Davis' parents got him into basketball at a young age. When Davis was 4 the family moved from Kodiak, Alaska to Anacortes.

His dad, a commercial fisherman, would teach Davis about hard work.

"I'm usually working out before and after practice, then in the summer, three workouts a day, how many shots, 500-600 shots, 500-600 a day, yes probably, something like that," said Davis Fogle.

"He works on his game a lot, and it's his goal and his passion. He's driven. I've coached a lot of kids, and I haven't quite seen anyone with his passion before," said Amy Fogle.

Amy was a college stand-out at Southern Illinois and played professionally in Japan.

"As I got older, she would coach my teams. She has a lot of knowledge and is always there, super cool," said  Davis.

As a coach in Alaska, Amy won two state titles and became the first woman to ever lead a boys basketball team to a state championship. Now she's helping as an assistant at Anacortes with a front row seat to Skagit Valley's version of Showtime.

"He can penetrate, he can dish, he's got a short game, he's got a long game, he likes to win and will do anything to win," said Amy.

Davis currently has offers from Boise State, Washington, Nebraska and many others. His ultimate dream is to play in the NBA, but right now his focus is to do something the football team did.

"The goal is a state championship. That's the goal every year. We fell short last year, so try and go farther than last year for sure," said Davis.
