Lynnwood's Mikayla Pivec puts up a shot in the state championship game against Cleveland.

Lynnwood's Mikayla Pivec keeps racking up the accolades. In addition to a state title, Pivec was named the Gatorade Washington Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

The junior wing led her team to the school's first state championship in a team sport last week when she went off for 31 points and grabbed 17 rebounds against defending champions Cleveland.

"She was a stud," said Lynnwood coach Everett Edwards after the championship game. "She led the way. She got us off to a great start."

In the regular season, Pivec averaged 20.4 points, 12.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 3.5 steals.

Pivec's leadership helped Lynnwood capitalize on the turnaround brought by Edwards, who is in his eighth year as head coach. In Pivec's three years on the team, Lynnwood has gone 77-6, and placed third at state in 4A last year.

"She plays harder for all 32 minutes than any kid I've ever coached against," Shorecrest girls basketball coach Dori Monson told USA Today High School Sports. "She has a beautiful shooting touch and is a tenacious rebounder—and it's also clear that she's a natural leader. That leadership reflects her character."

The 5-foot-10 Pivec also picked up many honors this season: She was also named the Hardwood Classic All-Tournament MVP and Wesco 3A South Player of the Year, along with being an ALL-USA First teamer.

Pivec, who also competes in track and cross country, maintains a 4.0 GPA, and volunteers with the Catholic Community Services and EarthCorps.
