Seahawks beat Lions 48-45 in offensive shootout - Hawk Zone

SEATTLE — Sunday’s game against Detroit was an offensive battle, and several Seahawks’ stars saw the endzone and ended the day with significant yards. Geno Smith completed 23 of 30 passes for 320 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 49 yards and another touchdown.

“The guy has been on his game,” Terry Hollimon said. “If the season ended right now, he would definitely be in the conversation for MVP. He’s putting up incredible numbers.”

Through four games, Geno has completed 77.3 percent of his passes. This is the highest passer rating through a quarterback’s first four games in NFL history.

Playmakers like DK Metcalf racked up yards on the offense’s way to scoring 48 points.

“They did a great job of targeting him,” Hollimon said. “Ten targets, seven catches, 149 yards. Great day for DK.”

Running back Rashaad Penny rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns, and tight ends Dissly and Fant both scored.

The defense struggled at times again against the Lions as they gave up 45 points and more than 500 total yards.

“You’ve got to understand this defense is really, really young,” Hollimon said. “A lot of new faces out there. Right in the middle is where things are starting to break down for me.”

Two young players were bright spots on the defense, cornerbacks Coby Bryant and Tariq Woolen. They both came away with two key turnovers. Woolen picked off Jared Goff and returned it for a touchdown, and Bryant forced a fumble.

Fans breathed a sigh of relief when more information came out on why DK Metcalf was carted off the field. He simply had to use the bathroom and wasn’t sure he was going to make it. All turned out well, and he made it back on the field.

The Seahawks will look to stay in the win column Sunday in New Orleans against the 1-3 Saints.
