Centro Cultural Mexicano empowers and connects communities through art and culture

The center provides facilities and educational programs geared towards the local Latino community. Sponsored by Centro Cultural Mexicano.

REDMOND, Wash. — Centro Cultural Mexicano strives to inspire inclusive participation by the community in all aspects of education, culture and society by providing opportunities to create a positive future.

“We have a particular focus on the Latino community because a lot of our services are in Spanish,” said Angie Hinojos, Executive Director for Centro Cultural Mexicano. “Our doors are open for everyone to explore new horizons, to discover their hidden interests. We believe in the transformative power of learning new skills and taking them out into the world.”

Their Makerspace allows all high school students to get certified and learn skills like 3D printing, laser-cutting and T-shirt printing - completely free of charge.

Centro Cultural Mexicano also offers small business services, such as how to open and register your new business, where they will advise you with a guide and resources to help you in the next stage of your business for successful growth.

“Our small business program is designed to provide comprehensive support,” said Hinojos. “We offer workshops, tax help and even graphic designers to assist in designing business cards.”

“They have some workshops that help small businesses, and they were really helpful to me,” said Jorge Quintero from Victory Painting. “You always say, 'You know, I want to start my own business,' but sometimes you don't have an idea how to do it.”

You can also listen to ¡Radio Ya Es Tiempo! This radio show provides information about topics that affect our communities. The program is conducted in Spanish and English, back and forth without translation.

“We really felt it was time to stand up,” said Hinojos. “It's key to getting information out and accessing the community.”

Listen live on KXPA 1540 AM Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

“For us, it's important to have allies like El Centro Cultural Mexicano because they do so much of the work that we support,” said Héctor Godoy from Consulado de México en Seattle.

Centro Cultural Mexicano is also dedicated to celebrating culture. Its biggest event is its annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration, which will be held at Redmond Downtown Park this Sunday.

“The Cinco de Mayo celebration is a testament to our shared history and resilience,” said Godoy. “It's not just about Mexico; it's about celebrating our diverse community and our shared journey.”
