Thieves ram truck in Lacey shop, steal Pokemon cards worth thousands

The owner said the thieves also destroyed the front entrance of the store, causing another estimated $20,000 in damages.

LACEY, Wash. — Surveillance video shows two burglars taking thousands of dollars worth of Pokémon cards from a Lacey store on the morning of Oct. 27.

The thieves backed a Ford F-series pickup truck into the front entrance of Olympic Cards and Comics shortly after midnight.

Lacey detectives said the truck appears to be a model made between 2012 and 2015.

Owner Gabi Shephard, who helped construct the building, said the truck destroyed the front entrance of the store, causing another estimated $20,000 in damage.

“I know the building is just a thing," Shephard said. "But it's still a thing that, you know, has been a part of my life for almost 20 years, and I've seen a lot of people go through it, so it just sucks."

The truck did not make it into the building, causing more damage, thanks to the driver hitting a support beam.

“I like to think it's good Karma,” said Shephard, who collects food and clothing for those experiencing homelessness.

Shephard lets people camp in her back parking lot as well.

She is certain the burglars are not anyone she has helped in the past.

Shephard told Lacey police she believed the two men were in her store on Thursday asking questions about the value of Pokémon cards.

Lacey police released surveillance images of those two customers saying it’s “possible” they are responsible for the burglary.

Detectives would like to speak with those men.

Shephard said insurance would cover the loss and pay for repairs.

For those asking how they can help her recover, she had one request.

”Maybe balance the scales and put some good energy out into the world to help other people," Shephard said. "Because that's what makes my heart heal, that's what makes me feel better."
