Thursday happens to be Mother's Day in Mexico. Leticia Hernandez grew up celebrating Mother's Day on the traditional day that Mexico celebrates.

"It's really a day when we give them all this love and affection," said Hernandez.

Hernandez moved to the U.S. when she was four and grew up in Eastern Washington. She says she never even knew about the American Mother's Day because her family went with their Mexican culture.

"Mothers in the Latino community are the pillar of every home. They really are the paramount figure in our homes, they really are the ones who transition all the moral values that we hold dear and near to our heart," said Hernandez.

Hernandez says in Mexico, Mother's Day is the second most important day in the year.

"Mexicans really have a very matriarchal society, so we like to honor the woman. The first most important holiday is the day of the Virgin Mary, her birthday," said Hernandez.
