The Hub in Gig Harbor restaurant temporarily closed Monday after several diners reported norovirus-like symptoms.

The restaurant, which is located at 1208 26th Avenue Northwest in Gig Harbor, will be closed for at least 24 hours so staff can clean and sanitize the restaurant and throw out all ready-to-eat food, such as vegetables, bread, and cheese, according to Tacoma-Pierce County Public Health.

Four people from separate households reported symptoms consistent with norovirus after eating at the restaurant during a special event on July 26. The diners told the health department they got sick 38-45 hours after eating at the restaurant.

Tacoma-Pierce County Public Health said it is interviewing staff to see if any of them were ill or worked while the customers got sick.

Norovirus symptoms include diarrhea and vomiting and usually last one to two days.

The virus spreads through food, surfaces, and personal contact. Prevent the spread by washing hands often, disinfecting surfaces, and washing clothing in hot water.

If you ate at The Hub in Gig Harbor and fell ill, contact Tacoma-Pierce County Public Health at food@tpchd.org, call (253) 798-4712, or report it online.
