Semi hits jersey barrier in Olympia, chickens roam I-5 during morning commute

Shortly before the Monday morning commute, a semi truck lost control and crashed on I-5 near Olympia, setting loose chickens traveling inside.

Chickens were set loose on Interstate 5 near Olympia early Monday morning when a semi truck struck a jersey barrier near State Route 101.

The semi lost control in the northbound lanes shortly after 4 a.m. when it hit the barrier, according to the Washington State Patrol. Lanes in both directions were closed intermittently throughout the morning commute while crews repaired the barrier and removed the truck.

All lanes of I-5 reopened at 9 a.m.

Trooper Johnna Batiste tweeted that the truck was carrying chickens at the time of the crash and ran free along the roadway.

The driver of the semi was not injured, according to Batiste.
