Seattle Super Hawks minor league basketball team to host tryouts for second season

Former Seattle Supersonic Olden Polynice joins KING 5 for a preview of the season as the team's new basketball operations president.

SEATTLE — The Seattle Super Hawks basketball team is heading into its second season in The Basketball League (TBL). The Super Hawks brought home a Western Conference Championship in its inaugural season in 2023.

Tryouts for the 2024 season are scheduled to run from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5.

The TBL is a professional sports league. It gives players the opportunity to play at a pro sports level in a minor league system. The ultimate goal for teams is to win TBL championships and see their players make it to the NBA.

The team's new president of basketball operations, Olden Polynice, stopped by the KING 5 studios to talk about the upcoming season and the future of the NBA in Seattle. He called it "the worst kept secret."

"It's not a hope. It is coming," said Polynice about the future of the NBA in the Emerald City. "Seattle, get ready."

Polynice played 15 years in the NBA. He attended the University of Virginia from 1983 to 1986. He left in 1986 to play professional basketball in Italy. After a year overseas Polynice was the 8th overall pick by the Chicago Bulls in the 1987 NBA draft. He was later traded to Seattle for Scottie Pippen. Polynice established himself as one of the league's unforgettable players. He played for the Seattle Supersonics at two different times in his NBA career. Polynice also played for the Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Clippers (twice), Sacramento Kings and the Detroit Pistons.

Polynice said he has enjoyed providing leadership and mentorship to players. Polynice is currently an NBA analyst for Fox Sports.
