Law enforcement pulls two bodies from the waters of San Juan County

The Canadian Coast Guard and San Juan County Sheriff's Office were searching for two missing kayakers when the bodies were recovered Monday and Tuesday.

SAN JUAN COUNTY, Wash. — Two bodies were pulled from the water in San Juan County between the afternoon of April 22 and the morning of April 23.

The San Juan County Sheriff's Office responded to a call regarding a body floating in the water in Grandma's Cove around 3 p.m. on April 22. A man's body was pulled from the water and turned over to the coroner's office.

Around 6:30 a.m. on April 23, the sheriff's office received a call regarding a body floating south of San Juan Island. The body of a man was recovered and turned over to the coroner's office. 

The coroner's office has not released the identities of the men.

The bodies were discovered after the Canadian Coast Guard asked the San Juan Sheriff's Office to assist in searching for two missing kayakers. 

On April 21, the Coast Guard told the sheriff's office they were looking for two Canadian kayakers who had been in a two-person kayak. 

Around 11:30 a.m. on April 21, the sheriff's office was told the Coast Guard found the kayak off the southwest corner of Henry Island. 

Neither agency was able to locate the two missing people during initial search efforts.
