PARKLAND, Wash. — A woman is dead following a crash involving a Pierce County Sheriff's deputy Friday afternoon in Parkland.

The deputy was traveling westbound on 112th Street in Parkland at about 12:58 p.m. responding to a call of shots fired, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Dept.

The woman driving the Honda, who was in her early 30s, died at the scene. The two passengers were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.

The Washington State Patrol is handling the accident investigation.

"Our deputy is distraught," said Det. Ed Troyer, spokesman for the Pierce Co. Sheriff's Dept., "There were a lot of witnesses here who saw what happened. Our hearts go out to them too because it’s a traumatic thing to see."
