It’s not unusual to see wayward boxes, clothes or other debris alongside the highway or Washington State Department of Transportation employees picking them up. But it is unusual to find a pair of eyes.
WSDOT employee Doug Knott was cleaning up some items that appeared to have fallen off a vehicle when he found a cat under a hubcap, according to a WSDOT blog post.
Knott put on his leather work gloves and used his newfound-abilities to persuade the cat to come out – all while on the side of a busy highway.
He took the cat to the local vet and learned that it was healthy except for a broken tooth and road rash. He also learned that the cat – who his daughter named Lucky – didn’t have a microchip. Now Knott and his daughter are Lucky’s foster family while they wait for someone to claim the cat.
If you’ve lost a cat and think Lucky may be yours, call the Skagit Human Society at (360) 757-0445 and let them know the gender and which highway you think you lost the cat.
Also, make sure to secure your vehicle’s load whenever you're driving.
