GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY, Wash. — Jamie Jo Hiles never had a chance to take Oakley Carlson to Disneyland.
But two years to the day after learning Carlson was missing, Hiles visited the California amusement park Wednesday to honor her former foster daughter. December 6 is also Oakley's birthday.
Hiles and her supporters celebrated with a cake at a Disneyland restaurant.
”If I ever get to talk to Oakley again, I hope she would be like, ‘You did a good job celebrating me. You did a good job honoring me,’” said Hiles.
Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office investigators determined Oakley, who was 5 years old at the time, could not be located on Dec. 6, 2021.
Investigators said Oakley's parents, Andrew Carlson and Jordan Bowers have not cooperated with the missing persons investigation. Since the case was opened, both parents were convicted on drug charges. They were found guilty of exposing a sibling of Oakley Carlson's to methamphetamine.
Andrew Carlson served his sentence. Bowers is currently serving another sentence for theft charges, unrelated to her daughter’s disappearance.
The Light the Way Missing Persons Advocacy Project has helped raise nearly a reward of nearly $100,000. The organization released a new video, Dear Oakley Lyn, a letter written by Hiles to Oakley to help raise more money and awareness about Carlson’s disappearance.
”I think someone somewhere knows something,” said Hiles.
