King County deputies involved in deadly shooting while serving eviction notice in Auburn

Auburn police officers and the King County Sheriff's Office SWAT team had responded to serve a "high-risk" eviction order when the shooting happened.

AUBURN, Wash. — King County Sheriff's Office deputies were involved in a deadly shooting while serving an eviction notice in Auburn on Friday. 

The shooting happened near Auburn Way South and Second Street Southeast. Deputies with the sheriff's office's SWAT team and Auburn Police Department officers responded to the area to serve a high-risk civil eviction order at about 11 a.m.

Deputies made contact within minutes of arriving on scene. 

The deputies used "deadly force," according to the Valley Independent Investigation Team, which is investigating the shooting. 

First responders gave the person medical aid. However, they were declared dead at the scene. 

Six deputies who were involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave. 

No officers were injured in the shooting. 

Auburn Way South between Second Street Southeast and East Main Street was closed at about 11:45 a.m. due to the incident, according to the city of Auburn. Southbound lanes reopened at about 3 p.m.

The Valley Independent Investigation Team is a coalition of law enforcement agencies from across south King County. The Des Moines Police Department is the lead investigating agency.
