30 adoptions finalized in King County for National Adoption Day

National Adoption Day uses the weekend before Thanksgiving every year to give thanks to the more than 125,000 children waiting to be adopted from foster care nation

Families came out to the King County Courthouse today to finalize 30 adoptions for National Adoption Day.

National Adoption Day happens the weekend before Thanksgiving as a chance to try and give more than 125,000 adoptable children nationwide a loving home. In Washington state, there are about 2,000 kids ready to be adopted.

Gina Jorgensen, who has been a foster parent for 10 years, left the courthouse with three new additions to her family-- identical triplet boys who had been her foster children.

"It means everything. It was so unexpected. As a foster parent, you sign up to be in support of whatever the plan is that's in the best interest of the children. I had no idea that they would ever be adoptable, I just knew they needed support. When they became adoptable, of course, it was not even a question," Jorgensen said.

Jorgensen said they will be going to Disneyland for their first official outing as a family.

KING 5's Michelle Li spoke at the event, being a proud adoptee herself.

Michelle has a segment called "A Family For Me" in KING 5's morning show. Her segment showcases children in the foster care system.

At least 16 National Adoption Day events will take place in counties across Washington this weekend.

National Adoption Day is often celebrated on Nov. 23.
