Family of man in car crash thanks good Samaritan for saving his life

A Washington family is thanking a good Samaritan after he saved their loved one involved in a crash on Christmas.

SEATTLE — An 85-year-old man remains at in the ICU after a fiery crash on Christmas, but his family is crediting a good Samaritan with saving his life.

“We’re just thankful we can move forward and he’s getting better,” said the man's son. It’s been more than a week of trauma and recovery at Harborview since this man’s elderly dad was involved in a wrong-way crash on I-90.

The family told KING 5 that the man has gone through many surgeries and has a long road to recovery.

“It’s amazing to think about because he might have burned to death if they hadn’t helped him,” said the son.

On Christmas, Nathan Webb  and his wife were driving on I-90 when he saw the crash.

"Once we got a little bit closer, we could tell it was a pretty big accident," said Webb. "Then we saw the car on fire. That's kind of a different story now."

Webb tried pulling the man out with no luck. He called his parents and shortly after, they arrived with fire extinguishers.

"I just wanted to get the guy out of there and wasn't really worried about what was going to happen to us," said Webb.

The injured man’s family said he is beloved by his kids and grandchildren. They’re thankful to Webb and the fact that no one else was seriously hurt, the son said.

"That's what I've been thinking about a lot is how he's been doing after that. I hope he pulls through it," said Webb. Webb drives the same stretch of I-90 almost daily and said he thinks about the crash often, but more so the man he helped save.

Washington State Patrol told KING 5 there were no criminal elements to this crash and the driver was cited for wrong way driving.
