First responders mark Oso landslide 6-month anniversary

First responders, their families and survivors of the Oso landslide gathered Sunday morning.

First responders, their families and survivors of the Oso landslide gathered Sunday morning for a ceremony on the six-month anniversary of the deadly landslide.

"Some days it feels like it's been 10 years, and other days 10 minutes," said Willy Harper, chief of the Oso Fire Dept.

It's still hard to process the meaning of this anniversary and what they've been through since a hillside collapsed last March and swept away 43 lives, but a few cruel lessons emerged from the debris.

"Appreciate what, and more importantly who you have - all can be gone in an instant," Harper told the crowd that gathered just after 10 a.m. at the site of the landslide.

Tim Ward, one of nine who survived the disaster in their homes that day, led the group in a prayer.

Gov. Jay Inslee was among the attendees.

Monday marks the six month anniversary of the disaster.
