Driver plows through Bellingham bakery

The bakery reopened just days after the driver crashed into the business.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A Bellingham bakery cafe damaged by a car that slammed through its front doors reopened on Thursday morning, just days after the collision.

Slice of Heaven Bakery & Cafe said a car crashed into its patio area and the bakery just after midnight on Monday. According to the bakery, no one was seriously injured including the driver.

The bakery said the collision destroyed a large part of a wall, along with most of the furnishing inside the lobby.

While the bakery re-opened on Thursday, the drive-through will remain closed while employees clean up debris.

"We want to express our heartfelt appreciation for your patience and understanding as we navigate through the intricate process of rebuilding," Slice of Heaven Bakery & Cafe said in a Facebook post on Wednesday. "The resilience of our community is truly inspiring, and we are particularly touched as we reflect on the fact that many of our furnishings, which took months to acquire initially, have suffered significant damage. Your continued support means the world to us during this challenging period."
